Teaching Golf Online… USGTF Leading the Way

Microsoft’s new Vista operating system got me thinking, “It’s a great time to be a kid.” Kids haven’t had to deal with the past 20 years of computing. They don’t have preconceived notions about how things work. It doesn’t bother them to press NO to turn a cell phone ON and doesn’t amaze them that they can create a new identity on Second Life or play virtual ping-pong with someone in Austria.

Taking advantage of cool new stuff in Vista will be a lot easier for someone who doesn’t wonder how you can watch live TV on your computer while recording a 2nd show in the background. It’s much the same with video analysis. If you missed the past 20 years of teaching with video, you’re in great shape. Now is the time to jump in! With a computer, a camera, and a new analysis program called SwingView Pro, you can do everything you ever wanted with video, and some things you didn’t know you could. Time to be a kid again!

I’ve coached thousands of pros on camera selection and computer setup and can say with certainty that video analysis is not as hard as people expect it to be. This year is the ideal time to get involved in video. It’s a golden era where everything works like it is supposed to before things go HD. Here’s what to buy and how to profit from your purchase.

  • Laptop computer and sunshade. Get one with an Intel Duo Core processor, at least 1 GIG of RAM memory, a CD burner. Make sure the computer has a Firewire port. Cost: $900
  • DV camcorder with manually adjustable shutter speed. All record at 60 frames per second, but not all allow you to manually adjust the shutter speed. Any brand (Panasonic, JVC, Sony, Samsung, Canon) is OK, but don’t get a direct to DVD disc camera. I’d recommend the Canon ZR-500 for the best bang for your buck. Cost: $275
  • Firewire cable. Firewire is just a brand name for a type of connection on your computer. It’s like a USB port, but different. Think CD vs. DVD… similar but different formats. Connect your camera to your computer with a Firewire cable. Cables come in many different lengths and vary in price. $6 will get you a 6’ cable and $80 buys you a 70’ cable. A 25’ cable works great for most single-camera setups to get all the angles you need. 25’ cable: $35
  • Video program. This is where everyone tries to guess which program works the best. The truth is, like a golf swing, what works for you is what works best. SwingView Pro has a 45-day money back guarantee and countless pro testimonials that it’s the best program available with the best customer support anywhere. Download the free demo from: www.golfaroundtheworld.com/svp/v6. Video tutorials are included with the download.

Out of the box you can expect to: Record swings (up to 4-camera capture). Auto-capture and playback. Draw lines, angles and text. Look at swings in side-by-side or “overlay” mode. Record video tips and drills to give to students. Burn free CD’s with analysis and viewer program with a few clicks of your mouse. E-mail screen recordings of your analysis directly to students. Support for Zelocity’s PureLaunch, P3Pro Swing, Weight- Right and D.B.S. force plates is included. Remotely coach students via the internet using SwingCoach Live. If you download the demo (above) you can call our support line to give SwingCoach Live a run through. Headset recommended. 561-848-8529.

Don’t let the rants about the new Vista OS worry you. It’s the dawn of the golden age of computing and the world is yours for the taking. Broaden your horizons with Skype, Google Earth, SightSpeed and YouTube. Fascinate yourself with Wikipedia, Zillow, Photobucket and Flickr. But generate more income and become a better teacher using the new SwingView Pro 6.0.
